This movie
is a group of friends in which some couples start having kids and
this starts changing everything for all of them. Jason (Scott) and Julie
(Westfeldt), the last two singles of their group, observe how their friends relationships
deteriorate and they decided to have a child together without starting a sentimental relationship, just two friends raising a child.
This
decision is taken with the objective of having a baby and still be able to find that person who they can
share their life with, which is why the parenting activities are divided equally in two, so in the other half of the time they can go
out and meet people.
Although in
the film Jason and Julie have no relationship as a couple, as parents they are smoothly organized reaching agreements and sharing responsibilities; unlike their friends, who
are together but do not strike for having stable relationships and giving enough
attention to their children. This contrast enhances what the film tries to tell
us: it is useless to have a relationship unless you can manage when things are not great.
The comic
situations, together with the dramatic ones, among the friends help the movie to not lose its pace and to keep the viewer interested. It works especially thanks to its cast, ready and well prepared for comedy performances.
Also, the
inclusion of children give a different twist to the script, a sort fresh turn.
