Young & Beautiful (Jeune et Jolie)

François Ozon (Director) has made a wide variety of films as different as psychological thrillers , musicals, marital conflict , disease , society , youth , maturity , comedies , dramas and mystery. It seems that the challenge for him is to do something different than before, while keeping his style and further developing his characters.
“Jeune et Jolie” talks about the change and everything that turn teenagers into adults. Isabelle is young and beautiful, with a desirable body, a mind open to change and the desire to discover herself.

This seventeen year old girl wakes up one day wanting to be authentic and to enjoy a pleasure that is not yet known. Her first sexual experience will lead her to discover an inexplicable taste for the danger that this pleasure brings.

Isabelle knows what she has, she knows her talents and she slowly investigates her limits, which she did not know existed and which she innocently believes she can overcome. It is just in the early years of youth when it seems that people are able to conquer the world, spending days without eating, sleepless: those years where barriers do not prevent achievement and where frustration seems meaningless.

The main character changes her life and slowly takes it where she believes it should go: a world of excitement and the emotion of hiding it, beginning with curiosity and reaching devastation.

The audience is set at a distance, allowing not only to enjoy what we are watching, but leaving us the possibility of being so far from the character that it becomes so easy to judge and criticize, to the point where her actions become inexplicable to the viewers. The judgment of the public comes into the game to complete the experience of this film. People always think they know what is best for everyone. So how many bad decisions can Isabel take in the eyes of the viewer?
