In Time

A science fiction story, but a quite innovative and analytical one. You could say it is a way of seeing our lives in which our time is not just stuck in our hands. On the other hand, this film could be related to the phrase "money buys everything". I understand its difficulty in attracting an audience, because  even bigger movies like Inception had the same risk. However, I think that in this case the main scepticism may come from the presence of Justin Timberlake and the unknown director Andrew Niccol.

This does not mean that Timberlake is a bad influence; on the contrary, since Social Network he has enjoyed several multimillion dollars productions, both domestically and internationally. The problems are that his films genre changes continuosly and the fact that he has not yet reached the level of actors like Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith, Tom Cruise and so many others. His partner in this film, Amanda Seyfried, is in the same situation.

Unexpectedly, they make an interesting couple and manage to leave the image of time thieves. I am starting to believe that a sequel might be possible, but that would require creativity and contextual background.

Cillian Murphy plays as the Keeper of Time, so close and dedicated to his job which often becomes a common pattern of the working men. Despite appearing briefly, Olivia Wilde delivers an emotional performance that is worth mentioning. In the opposite direction, Johnny Galecki leaves us more confused by his distant but yet stable performance.

The plot is not hard to follow: the only slightly complicated parts are in understanding terms and modes in which time works. I wish I knew more about the background and implementation of this system.

Besides that, we have a nice character development for the different scenarios. The purpose is clear and the action sequences are a good complement.

There is much wit and wisdom in this work and therefore I must say that, while this film will not go down in the annals of time, still it is worth watching. One of the  main limits of this movie is, as I mentioned, that it lacks some more evidence and explenation to the complexities of this scenario. For example, who has organized this way of life? Other than this , there is a kind of inconclusive ending to add to the issues that limit this to become a better film.

Without a doubt this movie leaves us considering about modern lifestyles, and makes us think about what is really worthwhile in this life. It also puts the accent on some issues like social injustices and absurd excesses of those who have enough money that they can turn their wealth into power.
