Donnie is gifted with great intelligence and imagination. After
escaping from the hands of almost certain death due to fall on his house of the engine of an airplane, he begins to experience hallucinations that take him to
act as he had never done and to discover an unusual world around him.
Donnie Darko
(Jake Gyllenhaal) is an introvert American student, who condemns everything he says or does. He is in therapy and goes once a week to a psychologist and
consumes pills.
One night,
strangely, after a cold dinner discussion with his sister Elizabeth (Maggie
Gyllenhaal), he leaves his room attracted by a voice that takes him out into
the garden of his home. There, a rabbit (yes, a giant rabbit), tells him how much
time is left before the end of the world.
The next
day, Donnie wakes up on the lawn of his neighbor, Jim Cunningham (Patrick
Swayze), with the remaining time printed on his arm ... From that moment, the countdown begins and Donnie will have a mission, without knowing what it is.
His problems
start getting more and more serious due to the constant sight of this rabbit
that leads him to commit evil deeds. In parallel, he meets an old woman known
in the neighborhood, who, whispering to him, gives him tips and to build
a time machine.
Meanwhile,
Karen (Drew Barrymore), his teacher, feels that everything goes wrong, his girlfriend (Jena Malone) has family problems, his little sister is the star of
the school dance team, and a known charlatan is sending him videos about
"emotional support ", going to school to teach Donnie that his
only problem is the hatred that eats the soul.
An
incredible story set in 1988. It is impossible to elaborate further for obvious
reasons. A stunning end that invites you to draw your own conclusions, with a
more than respectable direction, remarkable scenes the conversation with Frank, the rabbit, in the theater.
