I do not read american comic-books, but I usually enjoy the super hero movies (yes, I even liked Green Lantern). This one tops them all.
Sure, you need to remember what kind of movie this is: it is not going to win any palm or bear or lion or oscar. It is a mean of entertainment, meant to entertain. With this in mind, this movie gets a 10 for goal achievement.
Seriously, the only slightly bad thing are some dialogues that result very mechanical and a bit out of place and out of time: I am talking about the ones in which Thor or Rogers are talking... and they are, respectively, out of place and out of time!
Here are the things that I liked the most.
No cheesy, lovey dovey love story with the usual girl to be saved. The girl here kicks buts with the rest of the guys, thinks that love is for kids and plays the victim only as a questioning tecnique. Thumbs up for Natasha.
Funny funny funny. More than Starks, the funniest is definitly Banner. Besides the individual point of view, the hole movie is full of choral gags that will make the audience always smile and often burst into laughters. It is the kind of comedy that rules into TV shows: you can definitely see the touch of writer/director Joss Whedon! This movie does not take itself seriously at any time, even while talking about deads or politics or justice: this sets a very nice, light and desacrating tone that is quite new to this genre.
The "crumbles". I like very much the idea of leaving the pieces to build up this movie into the ones dedicated to the single superheros. This strategy does not make this "series" long and heavy as a franchise, but still it gives the audience the good sensation of being familiar with the characters and being able to build up the pieces.
The hero poetica. Are these characters weirdos, gods, heroes, men, angels, demons, soldiers? This movie shows that they all feel different about what they are and that, in the end, this does not really matter.
The excitement. The rythm is just perfect. Always liked Whedon's work in this sense (good old Buffy days) and this movie is no exception. Just when you may be starting to think that that situation or scene is getting too long or too boring, here comes a change and a great action sequence. These ones, in particular, are really good, especially in the final fight: they made me jump on the chair more than ones, cheering for The Avengers.
Sure, this movie is full of rethoric and the usual stuff; but, keeping in mind its purpose, I stand by my 10.
Only one question: aren't bad guys tired of destroying Manhattan?!
