Men in Black is the absolute trash that turns into cult. This is not a critic, first of all because I personally like it a lot and, second, because such an ability deserves a Bravo!
This third and probably last part hits the theaters 15 years after the first one and 10 after the second part. This trilogy has all the ingredients of a successful trash/cult.
The themes. Each movie is a step in the typical evolution of a saga of this kind: the beginning of a new life; the final renounce to a normal, loving life; the peace with the past. All as supposed to be.
The bad cop-good cop formula. It is more a funny cop-grumpy cop kind of thing, with a good chemestry between the two that creates funny gags.
Recurring elements. There are some constant things that hit and, by coming back in all the movies, become popular. One example over the others is the neuralizer.
The unlikely special effects. Even if it spanned over a 15 years period, the saga remains faithful to the 90s special effects, with the big fat worm-like nasty aliens and the energy shooting guns.
The hidden truth finally revealed. The new, unreal perspective on things that we thought we used to know always works: of course, models are aliens!
In this last movie, all this remains to give that nice sense of familiarity to the fans. Plus, the introduction of a new character who is instead an old character is an element that adds originality without overdoing it.
I heard Will Smith say in an interview that the whole movie depended on the ability of Josh Brolin to sell to the public that he is a young Tommy Lee Jones. He does a great job in this, sure, but I honestly think that the whole thing depended more on something else: Will Smith himself. He has always been and remains the main attraction of this saga because Agent J is just perfect for him: so close to the character that we met ages ago in Bel-Air and yet in a completely different contest, growing up with us.
Thus, as I said, Bravo! And now, if you will please all look here:
se llama neuralizer el deneuralizer es el de la dos, que usan para regresar a K ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are right! I fixed it. In my defense, I have only watched the movie in English like once! I should have checked though, so thanks for the hint!
